Croydon resident Monica Ryan felt passionately that improved access to physiotherapy was key to helping a person manage their MS.
1986
In 1986, the group started on a small scale providing a single exercise class specifically tailored for people with MS. Right from the start, the class was run by a physiotherapist with a specialism in neurology.
1992
In April 1992 the group opened a regular weekly exercise and yoga class in Ward C5 of Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children in Carshalton. Attendance increased and by October of the same year a second venue (6 Morland Road Croydon) was added for people to attend on Wednesday evenings.
1995
The group were on the look out for permanent premises. Grants from both the Bridge House and Bradbury Charitable Trusts enabled the group to purchase the freehold of a fully accessible property in Coulsdon. The organisation was incorporated as a registered charity in February 1995.
2002
Attendance had increased to such an extent that it was evident more space was needed. With £100,000 from the Bradbury Foundation and the Bridge House Trust the charity was able to extend their existing space and expand class capacity.
2014
A Friday morning class was added to those already on offer which meant that the Centre was now operational throughout the working week.
2019
Charity was renamed to recognise the vision and contribution of founder Monica Ryan.
2023
Charity was renamed to to add 'Neuro' to the name to encompass other neurological conditions with similar requirements that will benefit from the Centre's facilities and enhance it's services.
